Zagoroxwria... an amazing journey with the adventure as its destination
The beautiful and famous Zagoroxoria are a complex of 46 villages scattered on the mountains northeast of the city of Ioannina. The word Zagori has its roots in the Slavic language as many locations around Epirus aswell. The word Zagori actually means ‘’Beyond the Mountains’’. The Zagoroxwria are famous for their incredible natural beauty, their unique architecture and for their long history. And of course the beautiful landscape that surrounds them. The uniqueness of every village separately and the limitless possibilities of every type of outdoor activities capture and impress the visitor. There are so many things that a visitor can see which is hard to tell what will impress him more. One thing is for sure and we guarantee it is that you won’t believe your own eyes. The area that Zagoroxwria cover is of 1000 square km and is divided in 3 geographical parts. The Western, the Eastern, and the Central Zagori. Every part has its own unique beauty and history.
Western Zagori
Its located northeast of Ioannina and is consisted by the beautiful and famous villages of the Voidomatis valley. These villages are the Big and Small Papigo, Aristi, Vikos, St. Minas and Mesovouni.
Eastern Zagori
It is located in the northeast of Ioannina and it is consisted by the beautiful villages of the Vardas Valley (Greveniti, Elatoxwri, Makrino, Flabulari and Tristeno) and the villages of the Zagoritikou Valley (Anthrakiths, Karies, Dolianh, Kavalari). The beautiful village of Vovousa, Demati, Itea, Petra , Kastaniwna, Potamia and Agia Paraskevi.
Central Zagori
It is located north of Ioannina and it is consisted the unique villages like Vitsa, Monodendri the well known Vlachoxwria (Vrusoxwri, Ilioxwri, Laista) Kipoi, Dilofo, Aspraggeloi and Koukouli, Kapesovo, Tsepelovo, Skamneli, Negades and the villages of the Upper Vikos (Bradeto, Elati, Elafotopos, Uppper and Down Pedina). Also the villages of Dikorfo, Manassi,Dipotamo, Fragkades.

Kipoi
A village that will take you to other times.
Kipoi is a very beautiful village located in the heart of Zagori. It is located 39 km away from the city of Ioannina and it is built on a rocky hill. The characteristic of the village are the impressive gardens of the houses thats the name Kipoi(Gardens). Inside the village a small river runs through. You will walk the stone paths the beuatifull arches of the stone houses, the tall bell tower with the church and the St. Nicolas church. At Kipoi you will find the very beautiful museum of Agapios Tolis with its incredible collection of traditional art. You will be impressed by the ''Ontades'' which are places for men with wood carved ceilings and wall paintings and the ''Krevates'' rooms so big that are capable to accommodate big families. On the central road to Zagori you will also find the beautiful Kokoris Bridge. On that bridge many commercial spots were filmed and it has appeared on many movies.
Aristi
Aristi is a big and beautiful village located 48 km away from the city of Ioannina. Its is near the village of Papigo just before the monastery of Panagia Spiliotisa which is built on the brink of a rock right above the river and the bridge on the Voidomatis river. In the central square you can enjoy your coffee at one of the traditional taverns and gaze upon the beautiful church and it tower bell. In Aristi you will also find small shop with traditional art which are located in small streets inside the village. So on you way back from Papigo we suggest you to stop to Aristi and find enjiy you coffee in the central square.
Papigo
Papigo is one of the most known villages of Zagori. It is divided into two smaller villages the Big and Small Papigo and its locate 69 km from Ioannina, You will be impressed by the beautiful architecture of the old houses built of white stone, the well preserved homes, the stone churches and the stone paths. You will see the hexagonal bell tower of St. Vlassis and the natural pool on the way to Small Papigo. Small Papigo is built out of stone in the same architecture style with Big Papigo and its very impressive as it stands right under the huge rock of Timfi. From small Papigo there are the paths that will lead you to the mountain of Timfi the Astraka refuge, Drakolimli. The view is very beautiful and the visitor has many options for where to eat and stay. It really worth’s the visit.
Monodendri
Monodendri is 39 km away from Ioannina and is one of the most beautiful villages of Zagori. It is located at an altitude of 1060m and it impresses you with its famous architecture. All the houses from the village are built out of grey stone that is gathered from the rocks around the village. You will walk through the stone paths and you will see the big square of the village where the churches St. Athanasios and St Minas are located. But what will really amaze you is the beautiful view from the monastery of St. Paraskevi. This monastery is built on the brink of a rock. From there you will gaze upon Vikos gorge. Is a magnificent view which will take your breath. Finally from Monodenri stars a path that will take you through the Vikos Gorge and to the springs of Voidomatis river
